What is 一番茶 ”ICHIBAN-CHA”

We use only Ichibancha from Fukuoka, South Japan—the first harvest of the year because it’s the freshest, most flavorful, and nutrient-rich tea. These young spring leaves create matcha that’s naturally sweet, smooth, and vibrant in color. It’s the highest quality Japan has to offer and we wouldn’t settle for anything less.

WE SERVE MORE THAN MATCHA- WE SHARE A STORY.

We source our matcha from a historic farm in Yame, Fukuoka, a region known in Japan for its deep umami, vibrant color, and smooth finish. Inspired by Yame’s heritage and its connection to Hawaii through Senator Daniel K. Inouye, we honor a legacy of cultural connection. Our founder from Fukuoka brings authentic Yame matcha to Hawaii, blending it with local ingredients. We aim to share a lifestyle rooted in flavor, culture, and intention.

The “ROOTS”

The founder’s roots trace back to Sumiyoshi, Fukuoka, Japan, where he grew up surrounded by the world of traditional tea culture. His family business, HEIKANDO, specialized in Fine Asian Art & Antiques and tea ceremony utensils used by tea practitioners and instructors.

Many of the relationships formed there were built around ochakai, where matcha was prepared and shared as part of conversation and connection. From an early age, matcha was not something to be consumed casually, but something experienced—quietly, intentionally, and with respect.
